A junior school near to Eden Project in Cornwall, UK, has a new garden - a delight for the senses of local children. A gathering of Gazeley Colleagues and key 'Virtual Team' partners entitled 'Growing Gazeley - Redefining Global Delivery' caused an amazing outcome for one Cornish school. The event, held at Eden Project near St Austell in May 2007, brought together the company,s key 'Virtual Team' partners to focus on driving forward Gazeley's sustainability strategy. Enhancing communities is a key component of Gazeley's strategy. In support of this, pupils from the local Carclaze Junior School were invited to the conference to present artwork, poems and music inspired by the effects of global warming. Their presentation inspired conference delegates to respond by providing financial support for the construction of a sensory garden which had been designed by Gazeley's partnering Landscape Architects, Roger Griffiths Associates. Pledges from delegates raised £32,000 (€44,800) within five minutes after completion of the children's magnificent presentation. Led by Gareth Pickles, Managing Director at Delta-Simons, site works to the sensory garden will receive its finishing touches this spring. "The sensory garden is already a great success," commented Head Teacher Tamsin Lamb. "The children have been excited to see it and have already begun to speculate on how it will change as it grows." Many members of Gazeley's 'Virtual Team' committed personal time and funding to this effort. Inspired by its success, Delta- Simons plans to create another garden at a school near their Lincoln (UK) office, during 2008.
